e for effort.

I woke up early Saturday morning – around 6:30am. This is late for me considering I usually hit the gym well before that every morning. It was bone chillingly cold out. If my car is accurate, it was -21 plus windchill. It certainly wasn’t tropical. Our house is tucked away in a valley. We don’t really see sunsets or sunrises so you take a gamble when you wake up eager to take photos whether it is worth driving to find something. Most times, you end up pretty disappointed. I thought I hit the jackpot on this particular morning. I pulled out of my driveway after my car stumbled and fought starting at all. Once in the open, you could see my canvas. The sky looked promising BUT for the life of me, I couldn’t find anything I would consider interesting as a subject in the foreground. Sure, a sunset/sunrise will always look enchanting. The colours almost never disappoint and you’re always left with that calm feeling knowing you’ve just seen something that was one of a kind but without something interesting to focus on, what makes it any different than the thousands of sunset/sunrise photos taken?

These photos are okay at best. I believe I could have produced something better however… The first was a slower shutter. Had I been about 30 minutes earlier, I could have captured the stars in this shot. Hindsight 20/20. The first photo was shot with a 12-24mm F4, the two below it are with my 50mm f1.4 and then the last with my 85mm f1.8.

Next time…
